What is the Canada Greener Homes Initiative?
The Canada Greener homes initiative by The Government of Canada offers financial incentives for Canadians to make energy efficient home renovations. Within this initiative is the Canada Greener homes Grant, which provides Canadians up to $5000 for eligible retrofits like windows and doors. An additional $600 is provided for your pre and post-retrofit Ener guide evaluation which is required to be eligible for this grant. Also within this initiative is the Canada Greener Homes Loan. This loan offers homeowners between $5000 to $40000 interest free financing to help you undertake major home retrofits recommended by your energy advisor after your Ener guide evaluation. The Canada Greener Homes Initiative aims to make residential buildings more energy-efficient, lower their greenhouse emissions, and foster a greener economy.
Canada Greener Homes Grant: $125 - $5,000
Natural Resources Canada and Enbridge Gas in Ontario are teaming up to deliver the Canada Greener Homes Grant through the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program. Eligible homeowners can get grants between $125 to $5000 for making their homes more energy efficient. An additional $600 is provided for the pre and post retrofit EnerGuide evaluations which is required to be approved for this grant.
Home Efficiency Rebate Plus: Rebate up to $10000
Enbridge Gas has teamed up with Canada’s Greener Homes Grant to offer rebates for eligible home retrofits such as insulation, windows and doors, heat pumps and renewable energy systems. The Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program will help Ontarians save energy at home and offers enhanced rebates of up to $325 for each window and door, with a maximum rebate total of up to $10000. Rebates are available to all eligible Canadian homeowners and are also available for homeowners who not use Enbridge Gas to heat their homes.
Interest-free loan: Financing for up to $40,000
To apply for the Canada Greener Homes Loan you need to have applied and been approved for the Canada Greener Homes Grant. This loan is provided by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and offers eligible homeowners upto $5000 in windows and doors and upto $40000 in total eligible retrofits for their residence.
